Why McKinney, Texas
McKinney Economic Development Corporation
Title: Director of Business Development
Bruce Coleman joined the McKinney Economic Development Corporation in October 2017 as Director of Business Development. He brings over 25 years of experience as an Economic and Community Development Director in California cities.
Before joining the McKinney Economic Development Corporation, Bruce served as the first Economic Development Director for the City of Murrieta, California - a new master-planned, upscale community located in the Los Angeles region. Bruce served in this capacity for nearly 10 years, where he focused on creating the foundation for Murrieta to grow from primarily a bedroom community to a more economically balanced city through business attraction, expansion and recruitment.
Bruce took a leadership role in encouraging the creation of the North Murrieta Technology Corridor. He took the lead in helping to successfully recruit the first major anchor campus projects to this Corridor: Loma Linda University Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Murrieta Medical Center.
Bruce was instrumental in attracting major new retail, industrial, hotel and other businesses – all of which created significant new jobs and revenue sources for city services. He led the initiative to encourage the development of the city's first new speculative industrial project. Bruce also served as the city business ombudsman.
Bruce initiated the city's international economic development program which led to new foreign direct investments and exports. He helped to create the Murrieta Innovation Center – a technology launch pad located at the former Murrieta City Hall in collaboration with the University of California Riverside. Bruce also helped to create Workforce Development Partnerships.
