Jim Wehmeier Biography
Jim Wehmeier has served as President – CEO of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) since Oct. 2012. He is the Chief Economic Development Officer for the City of McKinney and is charged with developing economic development strategies and policies for business retention, expansion and recruitment; marketing; creating incentive structures and policies; acquisition / development; disposition of land and facilities for use in economic development; supervision of professional staff; and budget creation and management. Jim serves under the general direction of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors and the McKinney City Council and works closely with the City Manager's Office to ensure cohesive operations.

Jim comes to McKinney from the city of Lufkin, Texas. There he served as Director of Economic Development, President of the Lufkin Economic Development Corporation and for eight years, as President-CEO for the Lufkin / Angelina County Economic Development Partnership. Prior experience includes a 10-year career in professional sports management, leading Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers minor league baseball franchises around the country.

A graduate of Southwest Texas University (now Texas State University) with a BA. in Journalism, Jim has also completed Texas A&M’s Economic Development Basic course, the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute and IEDC’s Economic Development Finance and Economic Development Planning programs.

Jim serves on the Legislative and Conference committees of the Texas Economic Development Council, as Chair of Team Texas (the Statewide Economic Development professionals' marketing organization), as a member of IEDC and SEDC, and on the program delivery committee of the IAMC. He has been involved with TxDOT and has previously chaired the Segment 2 committee and served on the Statewide Advisory Committee for the State’s I-69 project.

Jim lives in McKinney with his wife, Holly, and has two children, Liza 24 and Jackson 22, who are currently attending college.
